What is Reiki?

Reiki is a Japanese form of stress reduction and relaxation that also promotes healing. ‘Rei’ defined as Universal life, the giving of life to all things. It is all-knowing, a spiritual consciousness. ‘Ki” is defined as energy, this energy flows through all living things, life force energy. Without this life force energy ‘Reiki’ the physical body would not exist. Reiki is based on the Asian concept of life energy and is done by positioning hands on the body. A subtle energy flows from the hands of the practitioner to the client, and it’s this energy that creates the relaxation and healing effect.

A Reiki treatment is a simple yet powerful process. As the energy flows from the hands of the practitioner to the client, feelings of relaxation and calm envelope the body. Reiki energy has the innate ability to flow to the ‘source’ of the issue always working for the highest good of the individual. Depending on the problem being addressed results of a Reiki treatment may be felt immediately or multiple sessions may be required.

Reiki works in harmony with all other therapeutic methods. It is a great addition to Western medicine and works safely with prescription drugs, surgery and other medical procedures. Becoming a Reiki Practitioner does not require any special skill, inherent healing ability or spiritual belief. Reiki is taught in a workshop setting. While there are aspects of Reiki that are taught in the usual sense via training manuals and hands on participation, the actual ability to “do Reiki”, is not something that is learned in the normal sense of the word. Rather, it is something which is activated or awakened within the individual through a process of Initiation or Attunement. This Initiation or Attunement is the central focus of each Level or Degree and involves a special energetic transfer technique whereby the Reiki Teacher (Master) essentially re-patterns or recalibrates the student’s etheric field and subtle energy centers.
